Taylor Johnson is a powerfully intelligent and vulnerable poet inasmuch as vulnerability means a pulling back of the wallpaper to reveal the mold, the chipped paint, the graffiti, the new beginning to an old story. They have a collection, Inheritance, coming out with Alice James books in 2020 and they are also working on a community poetry project known as the Alternative School, where poetry from poets of color is brought to New Orleans residents of color in dynamic and organic ways. I am always in awe of the rigor of Taylor’s poems and scholarly mind. They are a poet and person I treasure and am honored to know.
